| I am researching the following surnames: Adams, Bliven, Bourgoin, Dooley, Harper, Heron, Jackson, Keeley, Monagan (Monaghan), Preu, Sullivan, West and Wellman. BLIVEN/ADAMS of Rhode Island: I need to find the parents of Sarah ADAMS. I belive they are Simeon ADAMS and Dorcas BURDICK, but have not made the connection. Sarah Adams was b. about 1816 in Charlestown, RI. and married Isaac BLIVEN (b. May 30,1793) on January 30, 1848 in Stonington, CT. They had a son (my great-great grandfather) William H. BLIVEN who was b. 1853 in Westerly, RI. Other children include Alice (b. 1849) in Westerly, RI, and Elizabeth (b. 1850) in Westerly, RI. I believe Isaac had two children from a previous marriage: Sarah Almeda (b. 1847) and Benjamin F. (b.1841) both born in RI. I am also researching the WEST family of Rhode Island: I need to find the parents of Hiram WEST (b. bef.1800) and his wife Elizabeth "Betsey" PRATT. Hiram and Elizabeth had a son George W. WEST, my great-great-great grandfather, (b. about 1836) in Warwick, RI. George married Sarah B. WELLMAN (b. in Wrentham, MA) on May 21, 1854 in Thompson, Ct. Sarah's parents are Josehp R. WELLMAN and Betsey CHENEY. George W. WEST was a memeber of Co. "A" 1st Regiment Rhode Island Cavalry during the Civil War. He was taken prisoner and died at Andersonville Prison on August 31, 1864. George is briefly mentioned in Dennison's book "Sabres and Spurs" a history of the 1st Regiment of the RI Cavalry. George and Sarah had two other children: Joseph H. WEST (b. June 20, 1857) in Smithfield, RI and Isadore M. WEST (b. July 2, 1860) in Scituate, RI. Sarah (WELLMAN) WEST died November 21, 1866 (my great-grandmother told me she died of a broken heart) and the children were left orphans and subsquently split up and sent to different families. I believe a Daniel T. Waldren became their guardian for a time shortly after Sarah's death. |
