Proffitt Family

While I am new to actively researching and compiling information on my own family history, I have inherited a good collection of references, including extensive family trees of over 1,100 members.
My primary interest is the PROFFITT family name, as that is my name, but I am also very interested in interconnecting my tree as widely and deeply as possible. I have also submitted my data to the World Family Tree Project.

Major surnames found in my reports include PROFFITT, BROWN, MORRIS, MORRISON, BIAS, BALL, BECKETT, BLEDSOE, CHAPMAN, COLLINS, CONNER, DEAN, DUNLAVY, FARRINGTON, HICKS, JOHNSON, KEENAN, KIGER, MAYS, MCCALLISTER, MIDKIFF, NICHOLAS, PERRY, TURLEY, and others.

Regionally speaking, much of the PROFFITT history (and related families) I have is concentrated in Virginia / West Virginia (esp. Cabell County, WV), Ohio, and parts in North Carolina and other eastern States. The PROFFITT name currently goes back as far as OBADIAH PROFFITT (b. 1785). He is believed to have immigrated to the U.S. from Wales.
