I am willing to share data. Following is a brief summary of findings to date"
Summary of Our Family History:
To date I have uncovered the following facts about the Procaccini/Granata/Senerchia/DeGaglia/DeSantis family histories. I would like to use this as a starting point for the collection of a comprehensive history of our family. Maybe we can all build on this and in future years our children as well. Many of the dates shown are approximate since the data collected at the time was not very precise. Most of the historic documents are hand written and difficult to read. For this reason, dates and spelling of names and places and events are not properly transcribed. It is important to scrutinize the original documents with a magnifying glass to get accurate data and to cross-reference all data with at least two documents.
Saverio Procaccini Born: June, 1874, Panni, Foggia Italy. Died: 1960 Parents: Rosaria Senerchia and Antonio Procaccini Siblings: (According to Nancy Ziroli), Saverio had 5 siblings; Raphaela, B 1876, Concetta, B 1878, Scolastia, B 1887, Pasqualina, B 1/6/1894 and Alfonso, B 1875. Nancy Ziroli is the granddaughter of Pasqualina and lives in RI. and knew Saverio as Zi Zi. Arrived in America: Saverio arrived in NY on March 12, 1900. He sailed from Genoa aboard the Furst Bismark. He notes that he is a musician and will be staying at 390 Bowery Street in NY with his uncle Emanuele Senerchia (this was his mother’s brother). The spelling of Saverio’s name on the Ellis Island records in Pracaccini, with an “a.”
The first report of a Saverio Procaccini in Providence is the Census of 1900. He is reported to live at 165 Spruce St, Prov as a boarder. He is working as a blacksmith and is sharing a room with Michael Procaccini, also a boarder. For various reasons, I do not believe this person is our grandfather.
The 1910 census records indicate that Saverio was living at 86 Spruce Street in Providence, RI as a boarder. The head of the household was Maria Bambina De Gaglia (30 years old, divorced). Other occupants of the household were her daughter, Teresa Borrelli (Born in RI and is 8 years old, B 1902) and Elviro Borrelli her son (3 years old, B 1907). Another son Francesco Borrelli was born on Aug 15, 1899 and died 11 months later. The data reports that Saverio was a musician in a band.
It should be noted that the RI birth registration for Nicholas listed him as “Alvieo N. Borrelli”. I cannot determine when Saverio began living with Bambina as a boarded but it was to appear that Nicholas is actually the child of Nicola Borrelli. Saverio is reported as being single in the census of April 19, 1910, 3 years after the birth of Nicholas. In addition, Anthony Procaccini was certainly conceived out of wedlock since he was born two months after the census on June 21, 1910.
I also uncovered a passenger list for the SS Commonwealth that arrived in Boston from Naples on Mar 9, 1902 with a passenger Antonio Ciruolo, age 38, married, who reports that he will be staying with his cousin Saverio Procaccini on 47 Spruce St in Providence, RI. I did find a number of marriages between Procaccini/Ciruolo/Senerchia in Panni. These could be Rosaria Senerchia or Antonio Ciruolo’s relatives but the data was not clear enough to report as fact. People with these last names attended the funerals of Teresa Borrelli and Dad (Nick).
Saverio registered for the WWI draft on September 12, 1918. He was married to Bambina at the time and living at 62 Brayton (sp?) Ave. in Providence. The draft card indicates that Saverio suffered from Rheumatoid Arthritis. He worked for Joe Benedicto at 35-37 ….. street as a bottle topper. Interestingly he reports that his nearest living relative is Bambina but reported her address as, 12 Bond Street. I also found a 1917 draft card for
