These people came early to Northampton Co Pennsylvania and most of them stayed there. They lived, mainly, in the townships of Forks, Plainfield, Upper Mt Bethel, and Williams, and in the boroughs of Bangor and Easton. Here is a brief history of my maternal great grandparents. Charles Valandingham Kintz/Kent [b1862] married [1886] Mary Ann Barnet [b1869], both of Plainfield Township. Emery Speer [b1857]married [1875] Sarah Reimer [b1856], both of Upper Mt Bethel Township. Charles and Mary Ann Kintz had two sons: Morgan b1886; Everett b1888. Emery and Sarah Reimer had four children: Gertie b1877; Lula b1881; Daisy b1886; Reimer b1889. Both families lived in Bangor.
[Marion] Everett Kent married [1911] Daisy [Allen] Speer in Bangor and had three children: Sarah b1912; Mary Louise b1913; and James b1920.
KINTZ/KENT....This branch of the family changed the name to KENT circa 1890 during a family gathering in Binghamton NY. One of Everett's cousins told me: her father said that the KINTZ were Jews from Austria. Charles' father was Jacob Dietrich Kintz [b1829] who married [1855] Matilda Stier; they were both of Upper Mt Bethel Township. Matilda's parents were Jacob and Diana Tomer Stier [married c1825]; Jacob owned a pottery in Johnsonville; the Tomers were from Sussex Co NJ..........BRICK WALLS HERE: (1)parents of Jacob Dietrich Kintz. The family was split up and Jacob was raised by Jacob and Margaret Kintz Dietrich of Upper Mt Bethel Township. (2)parents of Jacob Stier, born 1793 "in the vicinity of Philadelphia", said to be "descend from Henri Stier of Antwerp whose great granddaughter, Rosalie Eugenia Stier, married George Calvert, the 6th Lord Baltimore".
BARNET....Mary Ann Barnet's father was Joseph Barnet born 1836 in Easton to Edward and Sarah Dengler Barnet. Edward owned the White Horse Hotel on 4th Street, a hotel for farmers and drovers. The Barnets can be traced back to Henry [b1733], a tanner in Easton. Mary Ann was raised by her mother, Sabina Stofflet [b1833], in Plainfield Township; Sabina a daughter of George and Ann Mary __?__ Stofflet who were married in Forks Township in 1822. .........BRICK WALL HERE: George Stofflet - I am told that one record gives his birthdate of October 14, 1802, son of Heinrich and Susanna Appolenia Sponheimer Stofflet of Forks Township. I have yet to find proof of this and have not found George’s gravesite. He died August 01, 1849 “late of Whitehall Township [Lehigh Co]”.
SPEER.....Emery Speer's father was Christian Speer who married Catharine Bartholomew in 1856; both of Upper Mt Bethel Township. Christian's father was an immigrant, Jacob Johannas [John] Speer of Knittligen, Germany [near Wurttemburg]; Catharine descends from Johann Heinrich Bartholomey 1750-1822, born in Friedewald, Hesse, Germany - a Hessian soldier brought here to fight for the British. REIMER....Sarah Reimer's father was Daniel Reimer who married Mary Buzzard in 1833 in Upper Mt Bethel Township. The Reimers have been traced to Bartholomaus Reimer 1617-1707 of Mutterstadt, Ludwigshafen, Germany.......BRICK WALL HERE: baptismal record for John Niclaus Reimer b December 4 1775 to Issac and Margaretha Krotzer Reimer - probably Moore or Williams Township. Niclaus was the father of Daniel, grandfather of Sarah.
Any and all corrections, assistance, and querys accepted with pleasure.
