The Robert Garry Prowse's of Toronto, Ontario

I am a filmmaker living in Toronto. I am divorced and have two children, Joshua who lives in Victoria, B.C. and Sarah who lives here in Toronto.

My father Douglas Prowse is retired and lives in Calgary. He is 85 years old. My mother Mary (nee Sommerville) passed away in May at the age of 80.

My greatgrandfather, Harry Prowse, came to Alberta from Prince Edward Island in 1905. A blacksmith by trade, he established a shop in Carbon, Alberta and homesteaded on a farm south of town.
His son Aubrey married Mary Smith in 1919. My father, Douglas Prowse, was the only son. His mother died when he was two months old. Aubrey remarried and had seven more children.

I spent this summer with relatives in both Alberta and Prince Edward Island working on my family tree. Currently several of us are trying to trace the roots of William the elder, the first William Prowse who came to Prince Edward Island, possibly with his father-in-law, in the 1820's from East Stonehouse, Devon, England.
