Jacob L. Babcock (son of Enoch Babcock and Mary E. Shackford) was born 16 Mar 1836 in Eastport, Maine, and died 29 Apr 1919 in Medford, Massachusetts¹⁶⁸. He married Elizabeth M. Gardner, daughter of Elijah Gardner and Rhoda Smith.

The letter from Janice Scanlon shows how I received my information about the family. It is hard to believe that these differences are there. I have also looked through the census records and in 1880 Lincoln listed himself as Jacob L. and his wife as "Lizzie" for Elizabeth. The death certificate for Elizabeth states that her name was Mary and that is what her tombstone reads.

The death certificate states that, Lincoln Jacob, was born in Pembroke, Maine. In searching the records of Eastport, Maine I discovered a Jacob Lincoln born the same date as Lincoln Jacob and the father was Enoch.
