According to her granddaughter, Celeste Rose (Walsh) Mulcrone, Lucy lived in North St. Louis. She spoke German fluently.

Celeste remembers visiting her grandmother's relatives and cousins in Renault, IL. Celeste's family visited their Grandma Brogan frequently since she was the only grandparent alive. They'd walk to her house, but Celeste recalls it was a long walk. Sometime, they'd take the street car.

Celeste notes that Louisa's friends "changed" her name to Lucy Smith.
