Generation No. 1

1. EPHRAIM2 OSBORNE (UNK1) was born Abt. 1723, and died 23 Apr 1794 in GRAYSON CO VA. He married ELIZABETH (BETTY) HOWARD. She was born Bet. 1723 - 1725, and died in VA.

Notes for E
PHRAIM OSBORNE:
There is no proof of a marriage to Betty Howard. It has been noted that Christopher Gist brought Ephraim Osborne, Squire Boone and their families to the Rowan County NC area, near Mocksville, NC on the forks of the Yadkin River. Christopher Gist married a Howard from Maryland, and also two of his brothers married Howards. It is possible that the Gists and the Osbornes were somehow related.. Ephraim was apparently a fur trader, purchasing furs from long hunters (such as Gist) and selling them through his northern connections to England. Christopher Gist accompanied George Washington across the Ohio River to negotiate peace with native nations prior to the French Indian War. Gist made crude maps of the area of present day Kentucky 18 years prior to Daniel Boone travelling there, and may have been the source of Daniel's interest in Kentucky and his knowledge of the Cumberland Gap route. Christopher Gist's son, Nathaniel and a Cherokee, Tu-Teh of the Paint Clan had a son, George Gist (Sequoyah) who invented the Cherokee alphabet.
