I came to the USA back in 1963 and am the only one of my direct family who settled in this country. I have done extensive research of my roots and my ancesters straddle the border between Germany and The Netherlands. The name PUNTE is still rather rare in both countries, but all the information I have to date is that they are all related one way or another, even if one has to go back hundreds of years. The oldest information I have on the name, which is also sometimes spelt "Punt" or "Pund" and in German often with an "Umlaut", goes back to 1498, to Ahaus in Germany, only about 20 miles from my birthplace.There are also relatively few Punte's in the USA and should anyone by this name read this message, I would like him/her to contact me at my e-mail address, maybe we are from the same roots. I also have copies of old maps, 1692 and 1743, on which a settlement named "Punte" appears, again within a short distance of my birthplace and the afore mentioned city of Ahaus, Germany.
