There were apparently four brothers that came to America from Germany in the mid-1700's. Their father was Johann Arnold Birchenbeuhl,

Following are the four brothers:

1.      Johannes Christain Boerkenbell: Born 1714, Germany. Came to America 14 Sept. 1749, on the ship "Two Brothers" arriving Philadelphia, PA. Naturalized 22 March 1761 in Philadelphia. Died ca 1765. Married (1) Anna Cristina Katzwinckel, (2) Maria Elizabeth Schumacher. Lived in the area of Philadelphia, PA
2.      Andreas Perkapeal, Sr.: Born ca 1715, Germany, naturallized 6 September 1769 in Baltimore, MD. Died in Maryland 1773 in Alesia, Baltimore Co. (now Carroll Co.). Andreas Perapeal, Sr. married Anna Catherine __?__ ca 1748.
3.      Johannes Gerhardt Birckenbeutler: Born ca 1720 in Germany. Came to America 21 August 1750 on the ship "Anderson" arriving in Philadelphia, PA. Married (1) Anna Maria Bock, 10 August 1756; (2) Catherine Lemmon, 12 August 1777. Lived near Philadelphia, PA
4.      Jacob Burkeypile Sr.: Born ca 1749, Germany, Died 1804 in Baltimore Co., MD Married Catharine Downey ca 1787 in Baltimore Co. Lived in Baltimore County, MD area.

The brother believed to be our ancestor is Andreas Perkapeal, Sr.

Andreas and Anna Catherine Birkenbile had a son, Christian Berkebyle/Perkapile/Perkinpile

Christian Berkebyle/Perkapile/PerkinPile a son of Andreas Perkapeal, Sr., migrated from Maryland from the County of Baltimore (now Carroll County) to Shenandoah County, Virginia, in the mid-1780's. Christian had inherited his father's land in 1773 and sold it in 1775 to his brother, Wilhelm Berkabill, known as William the Quaker. Christian Perkapile bought land in Shenandoah County, Virginia, in 1787. He sold this land in 1799 and moved to Grainger Co., Tennessee. Christain's first wife was Catherina __?__. In 1800 Christain Purkeypile married (2) Rachel Archer in Grainger County, Tennessee. Christain Purkeypile died in 1805 in Grainger Co., Tennessee.

Christain Perkapile had a son, Michael, who also had land in Shenandoah County, VA but sold it in 1809 and apparently followed his father to Grainger Co., TN

Another son, George Purkeypile/Perkebile, born ca 1775 in Maryland came with his father, Christain, to Grainger Co. TN

George Purkeypile, son of Christain Perkapile, was administer of his father's estate, 1805 in Grainger Co., TN. He married Jenny GlossipGlossop in Grainger Co., TN in 1806. George Purkeypile paid taxes on land in Grainger Co., TN in 1808. One Census records state that George Purkeypile was born in Shenandoah Co., VA. But another Census Record says Maryland. I believe he was probably born in Carroll Co., MD as his father was living in Carroll Co., MD in 1777, the year George was born. George Purkypile was witness for the marriage of his brother, Jacob Purkpile to Elizabeth Ford, 20 August 1806, in Grainger Co., TN

George Purkeypile married (1) Jenny Glossip in Grainger Co., TN 1806.
George Purkeypile married (2) Jane __?_____(last name thought to be "Cox" but not proven. Son, Calvin Cox Perkey, is thought to be named for her. The date and place of second marriage is unknown.

George Perkeypile was probably born in Carroll Co., MD, ca 1777, moved to Shenandoah Co., VA and later to Grainger Co., TN.

1806 George Perkeypile was in Grainger Co. TN, where he married Jenny Glossip (1806) and was administer of Christian Perkypile's will (1805)
1813      George Perkypile was living in TN (His son, Pleasant Perkey is listed as born ca 1814 TN on the US Census)
1815      George Purkybile was in Ashe Co, NC, with 265 acres of land - valued at $30 and 1 person listed under polls.
1819      George Purkybile was living in NC where son Franklin Perkey was born.
1820      George Purkebile was in Ashe Co., NC, listed on US Federal Census

Calvin Perkey was born. (US Fed. Census)
1837      George Perkey was living in Grayson Co., VA, where he made a purchase at the estate sale of Jane Edwards on 11 November 1837 (name is spelled Pirkey).
1840      George Perkebile was in Grayson County, VA, and listed on the US Fed. Census as living in the Western District of Grayson County.
1850      George Perkey was living in Russell County, VA (later Wise Co. was formed from Russell Co.)
1860      George Perkey living in Wise Co., VA. George Perkey was 83 yrs. old and Jane Perkey (his wife) was 80 yrs. old. They were living in household of their son, Kendrick Perkey, in Wise Co.
1870      Apparently George Perkey died before 1870 as Jane Perkey is living in household of Jeremiah and Sarah Chase in Wise Co., VA. US Fed. Census. (Was Sarah their daughter?)

Please note: Where the Perkeys/Purkeys lived in Wise Co., VA was first Washington Co, later Russell Co. was formed from Washington Co. and the place was in Russell Co., still later Wise Co. was formed from Russell Co. and it became Wise Co. That is why you see, for example, Franklin Perkey, who never moved but lived in the same place, however, is listed in county records as living in Washington Co.-later Russell Co.-later Wise Co.

In 1820 he is on the US Census record for Ashe County, NC with the following in his household:

4 Males age 0-10
2 Males age 10-16
1 Male age 16-18
1 Male age 16-26
1 Male age 45 and up
1 Female age 0-10
2 Females age 10-16
1 Female age 45 and up

George Perkey was living in Grayson County, VA ca 1825 when Kendrick Perkey was born and ca 1828 when Calvin Cox Perkey was born. George Pirkey attended a sale in Grayson County in 11 November 1837 where he made a purchase at the estate sale of Jane Edwards (Court Records of Grayson County). Apparently he was living in North Carolina ca 1812 when Franklin M. Perkey was born (Census Records).

1840 US Census for Grayson County, VA
George Perkehe (Perkie, Perkey, Pirkey) living in the Western District of Grayson County, VA (near Mouth of Wilson) is listed as follows:
2 Males 15 - 20 Born 1820 - 1825 (Calvin C. Perkey; Kendrick Perkey)
2 Males 20 - 30 Born 1810 - 1820 (John M. Perkey, Pleasant Perkey)
1 Male 30 - 40 Born 1800 - 1810 (Alex Perkey)
1 Male 50 - 60 Born 1780 - 1790 (George W. Perkey)
      1 Female 50 - 60 Born 1780 - 1790 (Jane Cox Perkey)

Since it is thought that George W. Perkepile/Perkey was married twice it is difficult to sort out who is the mother of the children. We have found only a court record of his first marriage to Jenny Glossip. His second marriage is believed to be to Jane Cox but no proof has been found for this marriage. Therefore, I will list the children and perhaps in the future we will find out the date of his last marriage and be able to decide the parentage of the children
