Charles Kenneth Purkey was born 23 March 1937 in Home, Wise, VA, and died 16 April 1997 in Home, Castlewood, VA.
Notes for Charles Kenneth Purkey: Virginia State Trooper for 2O years in the counties of Dickenson, Tazewell and Russell. Retired July 1, 1996 from the State Police in Russell County at the age of 59. August 8, 1996 38 days after his retirement he was diagnosed WITH terminal cancer and was given 2-6 months to live. During this time he was strong and showed people how things should be in life. He never turned his back on God during this whole time. He was unselfish in trying to prepare all of us for the result of his disease. He was the best Dad, Grandfather and Friend anyone could want to have. Married to Louise for 38 years. Loved to joke around with all and was the life of any family gathering. He is missed by all that who knew him and will be greatly missed as i go on in life. He had a State Police Honor Guard Funeral and the Largest crowed that Castlewood Funeral Home has had to date. The night of his wake there was between 800 and a 1000 that came by that night. I just wish he was still around to see all his Grandchildren grow up. Bob II and Brandon miss him a lot they talk about him at times and they wish they had him back to play ball with them.
