1. JAMES1 TOWNSEND died December 1794 in Clark County, Kentucky. He married RHODA.

Notes for JAMES TOWNSEND:
James Townsend came to Booneborough with his son Garrett, soon after Daniel Boone had settled the Fort. Garrett Townsends name is on the monument at Ft. Boonesborough as one ot the first settlers.

In the name of God, Amen, I, J ames Townsin of Clarke County of Caintucky,
being sick but in perfect mind and memory and calling to mind the
mortality of my body and knowing that it appointed for man once to die
and after death to judgment, do make this my last will and testament in
the manner and form following and first it is my desire that all my just
debts be first paid and then it is my desire to give the rest of my
estate to my beloved wife during her natural life and then to be left to
my child Rhoda Townsin and her heirs forever. I give to my son Garrett
Townsin five hundred acres of land located on Orther in Matterson County
to him and his heirs forever and I do appoint my beloved wife and Markham
Ware my only and sole executors of this my last will and testament as
witness my hand and leave this sixth day of December, One thousand Sevin
Hundred Nineyfour.

Old Kentucky Series (Grants issued from 1792-1815) -- 7,668 surveys (Patents in the Virginia and Old Kentucky Series were authorized by French and Indian War Warrants, Treasury Warrants, Importation Warrants, Acts for the Relief of Certain Poor Persons, Acts for the Establishment of Academies and Seminaries, Warrants for Finding Salt, Warrants for Clearing Roads, Certificates of Settlement, and Preemption Warrants)

I believe James Townsend fought in the French Indian War (1755-1760). He acquired an Old Kentucky Grant of 459.5 acres. This was located on Otter Creek in Madison County, Kentucky not far from Boonesbourough. I'm not sure when he arrived in Madison County but his son Garrett arrived in 1779. I believe James came after that time, possibly in 1787. James signed two petitions one was in Nov of 1787 and the other was Sept 1789. (son Garrett Townsends name was also on both these petitions. He is also listed on the Fayette County Tax list 1788 with his son Garrett.



Notes for RHODA:
Garrett also testified in a land grant dispute in 1818 in Richmond, Kentucky. Son of James (died 1794) and Rhoda. His sister also named Rhoda.

2. i.   GARRETT2 TOWNSEND, b. 1758; d. Bet. 1830 - 1832, Estill County, Kentucky.
  ii.   RHODA TOWNSEND, b. Bef. 1765.
  Notes for RHODA TOWNSEND:
Listed on the 1810 census as head of Household. In the 1810 census she
was l isted as over 45 years old.
