Clifford M. Bowling, 80, of Bradley died at his home on Friday, Oct. 3, 2003, following a long illness. Born Dec. 10, 1922, in Bascom, Ky., he was the son of the late Oscar and Mabel Fitzpatrick Bowling. Mr. Bowling was a coal miner for Westmoreland Coal Company until he retired in 1983. He loved the Lord and was a faithful Christian as a member of the Prosperity Christian Union Church and attended the Bradley Freewill Baptist Church. He enjoyed spending time bowling with the Monday night Handicap League, hunting and fishing. Mr. Bowling served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Marines during World War II, where for three and a half years he was held as a POW. He was a Purple Heart recipient. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Sue Wilson Bowling, a grandson, Logan Brown; four brothers, Lonnie Bowling, Ray Bowling, Earl Bowling and Bob Bowling; and a sister, Drema will. He was very loved by his family and friends and will be sadly missed by all the children. He will be loving remembered by his wife, Mary Ellen Hinte Bowling; three sons, Gary Bowling and wife, Diana, of Shenandoah, Va., Ronnie Bowling and wife, Carla, of Miami, Fla., and Mark Bowling and wife, Renee, of Shady Spring; four daughter, Nancy Prince of Bradley, Connie Paugh and husband, Ralph, of Shady Spring, Judy Beth Williams and husband, Terry, of Beckley and Kim Brown and husband, Tim, of Morristown, Tenn.; a stepson, Billy Smith and wife, Angie, of Rock Hill, S.C.; three brothers, Glen Bowling of Harper Heights, Stanley Bowling of Mabscott, Dewey Bowling of Manassas, Va.; two sisters, Dorothy Scalf of Mabscott and Mamie Louise Johnson of Columbus, Ohio; 15 grandchildre: Eddie Bowling, Melvin Bowling, Greg Prince, Carol Kelly, charles Prince, Denise Bowling, Scott Bowling, John Bowling, Kelly Bowling, Holly Pettry, Angie Presley, Jennifer Green, Brad Paugh, Michelle Crook and Ashley Brown; four stepgrandchildren, Dalton, Dylan, Cody and Morgan Smith; 14 great-grandchildren, and one expected great grandchild; many nieces and nephews; and his father-in-law, Chris Hinte. Service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Blue Ridge Funeral Home Chapel, Beckley with the Revs. Wayne Peters and Gerald Kelley officiating. Burial will follow in Blue ridge Memorial Gardens, Beckley. Friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today at teh funeral home. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Arrangements by Blue Ridge Funeral Home, Beckley.
