ILLIAM EDMOND PURYEAR:
[Samuel2.FTW]

About William Edmund Puryear, 2nd of these brothers, little is known in addition to the facts already stated: his service record in the Confederacy and data from his application for pension, including his birth date and place, 24 April, 1843 in Middle Tennessee and that at the time of application (February, 1913) he had lived in Texas for 64 years. On his Confederate Pension Record, written in William E. Puryear's own hand is this: "During the Battle of Gettysburg, I was captured and placed in prison at Fort Delaware and was released at the break up of war - was in prison about 23 months." The 1870 census record of Hayes County, Texas seems to be for this man - William Puryear...25, wife Fanny, 18 and son James M. 3. His age however should read 27 instead of 25 but that is a small error for early census recording! It is said that some of the members of this family went to Houston, Texas to live. (GHP book)

ALTER RANDALL PURYEAR:
[Samuel2.FTW]

Walter Ran Puryear, the youngest of this group of five brothers, was orphaned so young he did not know his birth date. The year we have set tentatively at 1849-1850. In his early years, Walter served as a horse handler in Texas Cav Giddings Bn, Carrington's Co. He was quite young to be given this responsibility! Perhaps having been raised an orphan had something to do with it. He was a member of Ben McCulloch's Confederate Camp and his family said that he brought a rifle back from the war.
