| My name is John (Jay) Leslie Puryear, III (1958- ) and my branch of the PURYEAR family is from the Halifax County, Virginia region, where my grandfather, John Leslie Puryear, Sr. (1908 - 2004 ) lived. In this home page, I am primarily researching the PURYEAR family name in the United States. With the PURYEAR family, I found a priceless book, PURYEAR, KIN AND KIN TO KIN, published in 1970 by Grace Hollis Puryear, that covers most of the Puryears in the nation from the early 1700's up to that time, except for my branch in Halifax County. Her book has been a great help getting started, however, there have been many error reported and since corrected by the many researchers on the Puryear name. There is much work to still be done by all of us. I appreciate any input that anyone has on verified correct information. Dean Puryear has been immensely helpful with the information on his branch from Kentucky. For all researchers on the Puryear Family name, please send errors and corrections of errors to me and I will update the records on these reports, as well as for the upcoming 2 nd edition book on the "Puryear's of America" published on www.LuLu.com The books used in this research: Puryear Kin & Kin to Kin by Grace Hollis Puryear (out of print) Ancestors and Descendants of Jesse Puryear and Jane Holman, by Russell K. Puryear and his wife, Mary Jeter Puryear(out of print) Descendants of Hezekiah Puryear & Rebecca Harding by Alice Puryear (out of print) David Young & Sarah Phillips Descendants (1994) This is the only book currently available The first edition of Puryear's of America was printed in the Fall of 2005 for people to purchase or download, otherwise, the information on the web is free to download.
