I am researching my maiden surname of Shearman, in Bedfordshire (1750 onwards) and Essex (after 1865), also my mother's maiden surname of Cox in the Rettendon and Wickford areas of Essex from 1750 onwards. Some other family names of interest are Bruty from Ridgwell and Cranham (1790 onwards), Cockerell from Suffolk and Essex,Popperwell and Lay (again Essex families) and Midlane, originally from the Isle of Wight.
