| I am researching the Hosie family in Scotland and USA and the Butler family in Ireland. My grandfather was David Hosie, born 7 September 1875 at Trottick, Parish of Mains, Scotland. His parents were James Hosie, linen yarn bleacher, and Margaret Nicol. I would like to know more of my Scottish great-grandparents trip to America to work, I believe, in the weaving trade. They were married on 16 July 1869 in Blackstone USA. They then returned to Scotland and their first child was born there in 1871. Of my Irish forebears, I now know that my grandfather, Patrick Butler, was born in Fethard, Tipperary. His parents were James Butler and Ellen Fahy. My grandmother was Margaret Walsh, born in Limerick, Limerick. Her parents were James Walsh and Johanna Smithwick. Patrick Butler and Margaret Walsh came to Australia in 1881 and 1886 respectively. |
