December 2013 - Still here, still hoping to be able to update the information I have here with what I have in my database, but not able to make the change. You can always e-mail me with the name and birth date of your earliest Eby and I'll send you a report of all descendants I have. You can also access the information through ancestry.com if you have access.

*****************************************************************

December 2009 - I've being trying to update the Reports to include the work I've done in the last year, but I haven't been successful, so I'll leave the reports as they were and keep working on trying to upload. Currently I am going through the US Social Security Index to ensure all 7000+ Eby's are in the database. (I've done about 200!)
***************************************************************
December 2008 - the lastest updates of the three Eby lines - Theodorus Aebi(1), Andreas Eby(2), and David Davis Ebi(3). Maybe the newest information will fill in the blanks in your Eby family tree? If you need source information please contact me directly at dquast@citytel.net, and I'll be happy to share it with you.

In the interest of privacy, I have tried to publish only the desceased, so all generations are not listed. You can contact me if the name you are looking for is in "All Ebys" but not in one of the reports.

MY MISSION: To present accurate data for the Eby Family Name - including all spellings - (Abee, Aebi, Eaby, Ebey, Ebi, etc.)

Do you have an EBY in your family tree? There are more than 75,000 names in my Eby database so maybe you will be able to find your connection to this family here. If not please send me as much of the following information as you can about the oldest one - name, date and location of birth, marriage and death - and I'll try to help you.

My purpose is to gather all information about the Eby family into one database so everyone can easily find their Eby roots. I don't do research (except for my lines) and depend on people like you to share your information. Don't take anything you find here as gospel truth. Consider it a clue and then search out the primary source documents. If you find errors here I'd like to hear about it. When I get conflicting data I include both with the sources of each. Sources can be found at the end of each report.

You can join the Eby Family Association by contacting them through the link below. For only $15 per year you can receive the newsletter and help to support the important projects the association undertakes. Recently they have paid to have the Eby Family Bible restored and are involved in upkeep of some of the old Eby cemeteries.

If you are interested in communicating with others doing work on the Eby line you should consider joining the Eby Listserv. You can subscribe or unsubscribe to the EBY Mailing List by sending a message to EBY-L-request@rootsweb.com with the word subscribe or unsubscribe in the body of the message - no subject, no signature.

If you want to get occasional updates from me about important Eby happenings, contact me at dquast@citytel.net and I'll add you to my Eby E-mail Group. If you are a member of the Listserv you will automatically receive the messages that are sent to the E-mail Group.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed to my project. If you have a website that may be of interest to others please contact me and I will add the link. Please feel free to link this page.

  • Who is this man? (320 KB)
I have attached a copy of the photo, full picture taken in Mt Joy, Pa and I am inclined to think that this picture is of John H Eby b/1841, married Leah Reese b/1852 and from the writing, it appears that it was sent to an Elizabeth Eby who was his first daughter b/1871 and married my great grandfather John E Hoover. I came upon the picture from a member of the Hoover family, thus my feeling for the above info. (see other photo - Who is this man - back)
  • George Ebey pottery (81 KB)
"There were many potteries operating in Scott County. The Ebeys were among the first and best and continued until at least 1890. In the spring of 1834, George Ebey, with a new wife, moved to Winchester. There, with Thomas Kilpatrick he bought the Robert Harrison pottery in the center of town. After a few years they moved one mile northeast of town and started producing stoneware. In 1855, George Ebey's fame grew as he experimented with drainage tile to convert wet and swampy tracts into productive farm land. Further, the tile kept wet roads passable. In the Civil War, Ebey rented out the business and sent thirteen men (sons, sons-in-laws, hired men, and apprentices) to fight for the Union cause."
  • Who is this man? - back (165 KB)
Writing on the back of the photo of the man who may be John H. Eby. If you know who this is please contact Doug Reisinger at dug.reis@verizon.net
  • George Ebey pottery text - explanation of pieces (220 KB)
Each of the pieces shown in the photo above is described.
  • Jacob Eby clock (415 KB)
Jacob Eby the clockmaker was my great-great-great-grandfather on my paternal side. We think the clock was made circa 1820, but are not absolutely certain of the date. The clock has been passed down in our family from Jacob Eby and eventually to us. Jacob Eby had a daughter, Eliza, who had a son, John Wesley Myers, who had a daughter, Theodosia Myers, who had a son, Frederick Terry, Jr., my father. It made its way through the years from Pennsylvania to Columbus, Ohio to Toledo, Ohio where I remember it in my grandmother's large house. When she sold the house, the clock moved in with us in Maumee, Ohio, a suburb of Toledo. After my father died, my brother and his wife moved the clock to their house in Michigan where it is now. It still keeps accurate time and strikes on the hour.on the face of the clock, under the 12, is written - Jacob Eby, Manheim. The clock is in my brother's house in Bath, Michigan.
