Notes for G
EORGE EBY-EBEY(4):
Served in the American Revolution and pioneered the move to Dublin, Ohio.- George Ebey p. 4

In George Ebey family history, George Ebey is known as the Pioneer. He was the first family member to begin the movement westward. Born in Warwick Twp., Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, in 1764, he served during the American Revolution, enlisting as a teenager in 1781, in Captain John Stone's Company Second Battalion, Lancaster County Militia.

Later he moved westward to Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania, where in 1790 he married Magdalena (Mary) Ellenberger, a Lancaster County girl. Together they moved west again to Dublin, Franklin Co., Ohio. In 1805. Thirteen years Later, with some of his children, George Ebey moved west again, this time to Illinois He is one of the few veterans of the American Revolution buried in the State of Illinois

This George Ebey's contributions to the family line should not be underestimated:
- he was the first George Ebey to spell his name EBEY consistently
-With Mary Ellenberger and their children, he forms the link to other early American families - such as the Beams, Blues, Brunks, Hutchinson, Kilpatricks, Macklins, Royals and Sells.
- He was the first to leave Lancaster County , to leave Pennsylvania for Ohio, to leave Ohio for Illinois

He was the restive spirit of the pioneer of his era. Appropriately, the name George Ebey adorns a meeting room of the posh Stouffer's Dublin Hotel - which named its meeting rooms to recognize early Dublin pioneers. - George Ebey p. 16

George Ebey Sr came to Sangamon county 1828 and died in 1848 at Winchester, Scott County Illinois

Notes for J
ACOB EBY(4):
My grandfather's name was Jacob Eby. He was born about 1760, not far from Lancaster, near East Petersburg, where he had a little home and attended the retail markets in the city with some of the products he raised on his little farm. I remember him well. I was about 6 years old when he died at the age of 83. I remember seeing him turn the pump on the old pump mill in Rapho Township where I was born; but he still owned the little place near East Petersburg, and the probabilities are that Petersburg was named after Peter Eby, a nephew of Theodorus Eby. Petersburg was a small town in my recollection, and in the days when goods were freighted from Philadelphia to Pittsburgh, teams would stop there very often for the night. My mother was born there in 1805, and father born there in 1800. There they were brought up, but afterwards moved farther west in Rapho Township. My grandfather at least, had two brothers that I heard him speak of. One was in the War of 1812 and got into Canada and one went west to live in Ohio about 1800. - Christian Workman Eby(6), grandson.
