Notes for A
NDREAS EBY(2):
Andreas Eby(2), was probably born about 1695 in the town of Baiertal near Heidelberg in the Province of Baden, Germany and was most likely a son of Jacob Ebe who was well known in the area of Germany known as the Kraichgau. He was no doubt a miller, an occupation which was that of his probable Uncle Durst Eby(1). About the year 1720, he was married to Barbara Bachmann and appears to have had at least two children before his departure to America.

About 1727, he made the journey up the Rhine to the city of Rotterdam in Holland. In the spring of 1728 he sailed on the ship "Mortonhouse" which arrived in Philadelphia on August 24, 1728. He moved to Lancaster County at once since he already had relatives there and took up residence near the village of Manheim on the Chickies Creek, where he worked as a farmer and miller. His tract of land which encompassed 226 acres was patented to him on November 28, 1748. It now appears from the gap between his children's ages that he was married twice, and that his second wife's name may have been Elizabeth.

Andreas Eby(2), made his Last Will and Testament on March 23, 1763, passed away some time in September of 1769, and was probably buried on his farm property. In his will he does not mention all his children and this was no doubt because some already owned land. In Deed R219 which was dated October 24, 1776, about seven years after Andreas Eby(2) had passed away, it mentions other children and time and time again we read Christian Eby(3), with his wife Catharine.

The listing of children for Andreas Eby(2), has grown in size since we reported it in the first volume of our publication and we now have many more dates and the names of more wives to include here as well. In this volume we also include Jacob Eby(3), who we list as another son of Andrea(2), whom we believe was dead before 1765 and therefore not mentioned in any documents of his father's estate. To this Jacob Eby(3), we have attributed the children we moved from Johannes (John) Eby(3), son of George Eby(2), in our first two volumes, so please revise your records accordingly.

From the Brethren Encyclopedia

ANDREAS Eby, another immigrant (likely the son of Jacob Ebe and related to Theodorus Eby), as born 1695 in the town of Baiertal near Heidelberg, Germany. About 1720 he married Barbara Bachman and in 1728 sailed on the Mortonhouse, arriving in Philadelphia on August 24, 1728. They settled near Manheim in Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania, on the Chickies Creek, where they became members of the White Oak congregation. Andreas was the father of Brethren minister ANDREAS Eby (1742-98), who moved to York Co., Pennsylvania, then to Maryland. Relationship with the Brethren is through this line of Andreas Eby."

Likely this Andrew (Andreas) Eby(2)
Who was the Andrew Eby listed with 200 acres in Warwick Twp. In 1759? I believe John Eby s/o Christian,S/o Theodorus, was living next door to Andrew Eby. John was only 22 years old for this tax assessment. John's brother, Andrew is only 12 years old, so it is not him. And I don't have a record of Theodorus having a son, Andrew, which would be an uncle of John and obvious help in starting a homestead since John's father, Christian is dead. Is Andrew an older cousin? If so, who's son is he? Is this the Andrew Eby whose will is proved 6 Oct 1769?
