I am researching the family of Nils Pedersen Kvammen (Quamen) who emigrated to the United States via Canada from Norway in 1866 with his older sister, Anna Pedersdatter and her young son, Iver Hansen. Nils father, Peder Iverson and two half brothers Andrew and Botolf (Bottel?) Pedersen Kvammen (Quamen)emigrated to the U.S. via Canada in 1869.
Nils was born in Sogndal, Norway in 1844. According to his naturalization papers his first name was Nils but he always signed it as Nels.
Nils' wife was born Kari Pedersdatter Hatleli in Sogn, Norway in 1848. Kari(Carrie) emigrated with her family from Norway April 14, 1869.
Nils and his family and Kari and her family came to Stoughton, Wisconsin, then they moved to Fillmore County, Minnesota. Although Anna Pedersdatter and son, Iver Hansen, remained in Stoughton, Wisconsin. Nils and Kari were married October 25, 1871 in Peterson, Fillmore County, Minnesota. After three years, they traveled to Minnehaha Co. and took residence in Edison Township.
They are buried at St. Paulus (St. Paul) Lutheran Church Cemetery, Edison Township, S.D. Nils helped organize this Church.
I would like to hear from folks with the following surnames:
QUAMEN
HENJUM
GRINDE
DARROLD (DARRALD)(DARRAL)
FOSSUM
ROYSUM (ROISUM)
all have roots in the MN, SD, OR, MT, WI, and Canada.
