Notes for J
1 John Almony is said to have arrived in this country as a baby. He was
supposedly a prince of a wealthy family but was brought here by the nanny and
named Allmoney (because of his fine clothes). Another story says he was a
child of four and was stolen and brought to America before the Revolutionary
War and reared in VA and married a wealthy Scotch lady in England (which would
mean that he returned to England later and then came back to America which
there are no records of his transportation) Most of the information on John and his descendents
and their spouses came from records supplied to me by Mrs. Margaret
Almony Cameron. She copied many of the family records that she has saved and
put together for many years. John settled into Baltimore Co on land patented
as Nottinghamshire (which could be the name of the place in England where he
arrived from if he were born in England). John was listed among property lease
agreements from Lord Baltimore in 1750 for land called Almony's Delight. John
was listed in the taxables in Mine Run Hundred Baltimore Co in 1773 by George
Lytle as John Almony with servant Jacob. He signed the Oath of Fidelity at
Harford Courthouse in March 1778 under Robert Amos' return which means that any
descendent of John is eligible for membership in the DAR, SAR, and CAR. John
married both times on Feb. 6! !MARRIAGE: First John Almony m. Elizabeth Waddham on Feb. 6, 1753 St. John's
Register Joppa Town. John Almoney m. Elizabeth Warhorn in 1753 same records. !MARRIAGE: Second John Almoney m. Mary Watson Feb. 6, 1770. St. John's Register !CENSUS: 1790 Mine Run Hundred Baltimore Co.
John Almony had 1 male over 16, 5 males under 16, 2 females, and 2 slaves. !WILL: John Almony of Baltimore Co. give wife Mary Almony 1/3 of all my land
and personal estate, to my son John Almony tract lying on the northeast side of
York Road called by the name Nottinghamshire by patent 732 acres leases by the
name of My Neglect, Almony Meadows, Almony Delight, Rogers fault, Shermans
Valley, Mollys Delight, the remainder of my land to my five sons William,
James, Elijah, Abraham, and Benjamin to be divided at the the death of their
mother, to my dau. Ann Johnson 30 pds, to dau. Elizabeth Ayrs 50 pds, to dau.
Rachel Ayrs 50 pds, to dau. Sarah Almony 50 pds. wife Mary Almony and my son
James to be exec. dated Aug. 21, 1797, proved Sep 12 1797. WB 6 p.19-20. A John Almony aged about 30y was buried Jun 24, 1798 by Rev. John Coleman of
St. James P.E. Church. Is it possible this is the same John? The Almony family
for over 200 years have attended and were staunch members of the Methodist
Church. DEATH: It is possible that he died Aug 24, 1797 and the St. James church record
was record wrong and he was 60.
