Notes for Eva Leolia McKinney: Crawfordsville Daily Journal, Sept. ?, 1912— Mrs. Eva McKinney Milligan died at her home in Waveland at a few minutes before eight last night after a long period of suffering with cancer. Mrs. Milligan was born two miles east of Newtown, January 5, 1859, and was past 53 years of age at the time of her death. She was the daughter of Thompson and Catherine McClure McKinney. Two brothers, Frank and Charles McKinney, reside near Newtown. On her birthday anniversary in 1887 the deceased was married to William Milligan of Waveland. The husband and four children, Clarence, Mary, Mabel, and Elton, all living at home, survive. A half sister, Mrs. Mary Armstrong, lives in Toledo, O., and Homer McKinney of Crawfordsville is a nephew. In November 1910, Mrs. Milligan’s physicians discovered that she had a cancer and in December she underwent an operation at the hospital in Crawfordsville. A year later she had another operation performed, this time in Toledo, O. Early in April of this year she returned to her home in Waveland where she has gradually grown weaker. She had been considerably worse for the past two weeks and notwithstanding the fact that she was able to sit on the veranda three days ago her death was not unexpected. A half sister of the deceased, Mrs. Vinton of Burlington, Ia., died from the same cause some time ago. Mrs. Milligan was a member of the Presbyterian Church in Waveland and was prominent in literary and social circles of the church. She was a member of the Book club and Currents Event club and for a number of years was a schoolteacher. Funeral services will be held from the home at eleven Friday morning with the Rev. Frank Solin, pastor of the Presbyterian Church, in charge. Burial will be at the Presbyterian Cemetery in Waveland.
Waveland Independent, Sept. 6, 1912 -- Mrs. William Milligan died at her home on E. Green St at 8 on Wed. evening after suffering intensely for many weeks. Death was caused by cancer, following an operation about two years ago. Fun. serv. will be held at the home today at 11, under charge of Rev. Frank B. Solin pastor of the Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Milligan was the d/o Prestley and Catharine McKinney, and was b. near Newtown, Jan 5, 1859. she has two brothers, Charles R. and Frank of Newtown and one sister, Mrs. Mary Armstrong of Toledo, Ohio, living. She was a grad. of the State Normal at Terre Haute and the Toledo Business College. She taught school for a # of years and found time between terms to enter and prove up on a homestead in Dakota Territory. She marr. Wm. Milligan in January 1887 who survives. Of their 5 children, four are living: Clarence, Mary, Mable and Elton. She became a member of the Presbyterian Church in girlhood and was a faithful member. She was a charter member of the Current Events Club and also belonged to the Book Club. She was an energetic member of the Women's Foreign Missionary Society. of the Presbyterian. Church. During her long and painful illness she bore her suffering with patience. Her thought was ever for others. She was a faithful wife and a tender and affectionate mother. She was a good and helpful neighbor. Christianity was with her no form (?) but an essential part of her life. Of more than ordinary intelligence, she took a deep interest in all matters of public interest. Her death in the prime of life will leave a vacancy that cannot soon be filled.
