Welcome to our genealogy site.

Interest in genealogy started at age five, when Grandmother Anderson showed us a postcard of a hotel once owned by Great-grandfather, John Anderson, in Madison, Minnesota. She reminded us we were sitting in Grandpa Charles Anderson's chair that came from that hotel. A desire to see the hotel and find out more about the family, started then.
My cousin, Kelly, started collecting documents and pictures of the Andersons, Bergets and Nelsons, and when he ran of time to work on it, he passed it over to me. He was the first of many people to help.

The Internet has made possible some wonderful connections and made available terrific resources for continuing genealogy.

Familytree Maker has three branches of our history in their CDs and from their submittor list, connections were made to other cousins interested in genealogy. A big Thank You to them.

Another valuable resource has been mail lists. The Norway List homepage is at http://www.cport.com/~catmandu/NorwayList.htm with a lot of information and links including how to join the Norway List.

The swedes@smultron and Sweden-L at Rootsweb have also played a major role in research. The list members have been wonderful, sharing resources, helping with contacts and translating, pointing
out another place to look when at a brick wall, and sharing Norwegian and Swedish culture and history.

The Social Security Death Index and the Vital Statistics from B.C. online are great assets.

The Scandinavians are difficult to research with the naming practices and different things that prompted name changes in North America. You will see them listed with their family name where they were found.

The Ukrainian names produced a different problem, with a different alphabet to convert to English, many variations of English spelling were tried out before they found one that worked.

The main families included in this research are: 2 different families of ANDERSON (Sweden), BERGET(Norway), NELSON, THOMPSON and descendant branch HILANMO (also Norway), HARMESON (possibly Scottish or Norwegian) RABCHAK and LEPUTCHAEK (from the Ukraine), as well as KITZMANN, KOTKE, BELKE AND GERTZ(of German ancestry, emigrating from Poland)

The Interne tree shows ancestors of Marie Berget from Eidskog, Hedmark, Norway

For more information about these families, see the file Family Background link below:

If you want more information on any of the families, I am happy to share. Please contact me at the addresses above. Thanks for stopping by.
