These pages contain some of the information that my relatives and I have collected to date about ancestors on my mother's and my father's side. On my mother's side were Caroline and Conrad Ertel and their descendants. To date, we know little about Conrad. He is thought to have emigrated from Nuernberg (Nuremberg), Germany to the United States about 1870. His given names may have been Conrad John or John Conrad. We believe that Caroline (possibly Carolyn) was born in Berlin, Germany, emigrated to the United States, was married to Conrad in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and died in 1919 after having given birth during her lifetime to ten children, the third of whom was my mother's mother, Emma Elisabeth Ertel. Caroline's father may have been named Joseph Miller or Mueller or Geschefsky, and Caroline may have been the eldest of four children. This couple's six daughters' married surnames include Jeske, Bergmann, Spieker, Lindquist, and Ziegler. On my father's side were my great-grandparents John and Barbara Rabold. We know very little about their children except for one, my grandfather John August Paul Rabold. He married Anna Marie Christene Gaefke and had three children. Their two daughters' married surnames are Hartge and Metzgar. After Anna's untimely death, John married my grandmother Martha Bertha Christina Lauterbach and had three additional children. Their two daughters' married surnames are Mathias and Steiner. Please see the reports below for some details compiled to date. Details about ancestors of some others who married into these lines of descendants are also shown. | |
