Stalking the Elusive Ancestor

Updated December 18, 2001

I'm trying to find the ancestors of Martin WIGNER of Pleasants County, WV and his wife Louisa Ellen DOOLEY (or DAWLEY, sources differ). According to the 1900 Census, Louisa was from Ohio. Where in Ohio? Who knows? Martin seems to have been the son of John G. WIGNER and Sarah CLARK; I've traced Sarah's father Martin CLARK back to Greene County, PA (the 1850 census), but know nothing about her mother Margaret or any previous generations.

Another line leads back to Ireland - the long way around, from WIGNERs in Johnson City, Broome Co., NY, to WHITMANs in Harbour Grace, Newfoundland (before it became part of Canada), to the family of Captain WATTS of the cargo vessel Sharpshooter in San Francisco, CA, to Jane Magee of Ballarat, VIC, Australia, and finally (or originally, depending on how you look at it), to Ireland (according to family legends).

If any of this connects with any of your research, I'd love to hear about it, and will happily share what I have discovered.
