The CRAWFORDS of Ireland, Georgia, Louisiana, & Mississippi
I'm Carolyn CRAWFORD Rains and I've been researching the Crawfords of Mississippi for about four years. They came to Mississippi via Louisiana. James and his brothers apparently fought and died as a result of the War of 1812. They received land grants. I believe they came to Louisiana from Georgia. I have information that indicates James (born 1780 in Ireland) was the son of John Crawford who was born in Loughinisland, Ireland, and that the birth James is recorded at The Church of Seaforde Down as being May 29, 1780. He reportedly had two brothers. Perhaps one of them was named Thomas and he was born February 27, 1783. They emigrated to the United States via Savannah, GA circa 1800. James married Susan (or Susannah) Jane Spinks perhaps in Pulaski or Lincoln County, Georgia. They had five children--four of the names are known: John b. 5/8/1806, James Clausen born about 1808, Rebecca born about 1810, Robert H. born abt 1812, with the fifth name unknown. John married Elizabeth Guess. Rebecca married Robert M. Dickens and we think they're in Texas; Robert H. married Mary "Polly" Beasley and settled in Copiah County, Mississippi. We want to know about James' father, John, i.e. when was he born, where, who he married, where, etc. If you have information, please get in touch with me at (601) 969-0708 or 213 South Lamar Street, Jackson, MS 39201. |
