He married (1) Margaretta Caldwell on April 17, 1843 in Ballymena, County Antrim, Ireland, daughter of Andrew Caldwell and Betty. He married (2) Elizabeth McKennan on April 1900.

Thomas and Margaretta emigrted to the United States in 1850 to Groveland, Livingston Co. N. Y. whre they reamined until 1852 when, following the tide of immigartion westward they sttled in Scipio Hillsdale, Michigan. Here they reamined about four years when they purchased the farm getween Homer and Litchfield and later owned by John. They moved to Homer in 1888 and there sepnt the balance of their days.
