I am researching the Owens, Raines, Robinson, Ryals and Straughn Family descendants from Conecuh County, Al. I have leading information given to me by several relatives that go back at least 14 generations and pictures that date back between 1872 and 1890. I started collecting information and performing research only a year ago and understand that this could be a very long term task.
What I am having difficulty in finding is any accurate connection of Josiah Raines's parents and grandparents which will possibly link specifics on Europe origination. Another relative researching the Owens family has had trouble with identification of the parents who were American Indians of Alabama Fair (b. Nov 12, 1860 d. May 27, 1912). She married William R. Owens. Other areas where finding descendants seems to be limited on resource and information are parents to William W. Robinson, who is buried in Old Texas, Al. and parents to William Rufus Owens of Monroe County, Al.
If you have any information, please contact me by email. I am willing to share my information and pictures in electronic format. Also, if you see any errors that need correction, please let me know. This page is under construction and will have the latest content updated by end of March 2002.
Other resources of information were located at the Evergreen County Library in Conecuh County. A couple of books to mention were the "Early Settlers Along the Old Federal Road in Monroe & Conecuh Counties Alabama" by Mary E. Brantley and "History of Conecuh County, Alabama" by Benjamin Franklin Riley.

Joseph Winfield Robinson, called "Grandpa" born in Lowndes County, AL. in 1852. His first wife, Sophronia Essie Middleton, "Grandmother", born in 1860. My estimate of the date when this picture was taken could be sometime between 1872 and 1890.
- James Henderson Raines and Family abt. 1886 (115 KB)
This is a rough picture as it was a digital capture of a paper copy from the original picture. I plan to update this with an improved picture soon. James Henderson Raines is in the lower center of the picture.
