1914-1918 War photo - My memories of Joseph Mealing are of him lying in bed when he was very ill in our house in Barnet - when he and Nellie were living with us. He had great fun with us girls and would say 'Take one leg off the floor' which we did then 'Take the other one off the floor' - with the same result each time, of us in a heap. I was about 4 then. He also used to tell us a tale - One dark and stormy night, two bad men sat around the camp fire - 'tell us a story' said one to the other - and so the story began - One dark and stormy night...... took a while before this sank in, but we still persisted with 'Tell us a story Granddad'
