The Family of Mary Rankin (born 1797) Mary Rankin was the third child of John Rankin Snr. She married Peter Rankin in October 1833 and they had 6 children - Angus (born at Kiltarlity), Duncan, Neil, Alexander, a daughter Christian (or Christine) and Donald. The family started to live in Boleskine but appear to have moved after the birth of the family to the Fort William area. Duncan was a "ship carpenter" according to both 1881 and 1901 Census who married Catherine Gillies who was a native of Kilmallie. They lived at Corpach near Fort William and had 3 children - Alexander, Anne and Ewen. Ewen by 1901 was a postman in the Cullochy Bridge area of Fort Augustus where his parents had returned.
