The Family of Andrew Rankin (1897-1980) After University, Andrew settled in Edinburgh and married Andrina (Ina) Frier at Mayfield North Church on 9 June 1931. Ina was born in Portobello, Edinburgh on 4 February 1909 and worked as a shorthand typist. Andrew practised law and was, for over 30 years, General Manager and Company Secretary of Scottish Agricultural Securities Corporation – an organisation set up by the 4 main Scottish banks to lend money to the Scottish farming industry. After retiring in July 1966, he continued to work first in Edinburgh and then for the Highland Regional Council when he returned to his roots in Inverness. For a number of years he was an external examiner in Conveyancing for the University of Edinburgh. He died after suffering a brain haemorrhage in 1980 and is buried with Ina and Caitriana in Tomnahurich Cemetery in Inverness. Ina died in a nursing home in Grange Terrace in Edinburgh just a few doors away from where she spent the majority of her married life. There were 2 children – Alasdair born 7 December 1944 and Caitriana born 4 September 1949. Alasdair attended the Edinburgh Academy before progressing to Edinburgh University where he graduated first with a BSc in Chemistry and then was awarded a Doctorate (PhD) after submitting a thesis on "Metal Complexes of Uronic Acids". Caitriana attended George Watson's Ladies College before moving to Aberdeen University where she successfully graduated with a Teaching degree. Despite prolonged ill health, she travelled extensively and also worked for a time as Teacher at Craig Phadreaig Hospital School for mentally handicapped children in Inverness. Sadly she died in 1994.
