Find Family

This history covers 250 years of the life and times of the Rankin family starting in the West Highlands of Scotland and ultimately spreading across the continents.

The Rankins in this study are descended from the Rankins who lived in Glencoe - a Scottish glen infamous for a Massacre in 1692 when the McDonalds of Glencoe were massacred by soldiers who belonged to the clan Campbell. It is reported (John Prebble in his book "Glencoe") that the first to be slaughtered was a Rankin. Fortunately some escaped through the snowy hills and established new homes.
