Price came with his family to Kansas from Arkansas as they had heard that coalwas plentiful. So abundant that the coal just laid on top of the ground.When they arrived at Kansas, they realized that the coal was actually dried cow dung, which people were using to burn as a heat source.
Apparently, Price died afew winters after coming to Kansas.The family were living in a sod house. Their cow grazed on the grass roof and often rubbed into the side of the house toscratch, creating a hole, allowing the cold in.Price died of pnumonia, leaving his wife with 8 children to care for.
