| My great grandmother, Elizabeth Sarah Baskerville remarried after the death of her beloved husband, to Albert Edward Colless. Very little was known of this man until I started my research into his remarkable family. "Pop Colless" as he was fondly known as came from convict stock (being his grandparents). As the information was found and the stories of these Colless' surfaced, I was amazed to learn of the many important connections to those of "society" in the early years of our colony. Yes the Colless family came from convict stock and yes they married into convict families. From this research comes stories of the pioneering spirit, hospitality, courage, love, pride, honour, will-power and sheer determination to show "those" they will make their way in life. The word convict was just that and not a persona. Though the Colless family are not my "blood" relatives, I wanted to learn about them. not to mention learning Australian history. If there is anyone with more information, please do not hesitate in contacting me. |
