Find Family

* Descendants of Reuben Ransom*

Updated August 18, 2007

My goal is to be able to identify every Southern Ransom, Ranson, Ransone, or other variants in spelling. Most, with an exception one or two of these variant spellings, appear to be related individuals.
My line of Ransoms appear to be related to the Gloucester/Mathews County Virginia Ransoms, which began with Peter Ransom in the early 1600's. My Ransoms moved to what is now Franklin County, North Carolina by 1771. They moved to Georgia in 1805 - to the Greene County area and to Clarke County in 1820. The children began dispersing and mine went to Newton and Walton Counnties Georgia in the 1830's and 40's but moved on to Choctaw County, Mississippi in the late 1840's. They continued west where they arrived in Burleson and Washington Counties, Texas in about 1857.

I am also researching my Odell family, which came out of Ray County Missouri in about 1844, and settled in Hunt County, Texas.
