This is the "Home Page" of Billy G. Ratcliff, currently residing in Germany. I am a History Professor teaching for the European Division of the University of Maryland based out of College Park, Maryland. I am not a professional genealogist, but am very interested in tracing the family roots of several surnames within my family line. My original intent was to see if any "Ratcliffs" were famous (or infamous for that matter) that I might be related to. As my family tree grew (9200 names as of now) it included other surnames that I am now researching. Names that I have been researching with great interest are derivatives of the name Ratcliff (Redcliff, Ratliff, Ratcliffe, Radcliffe, etc.), Maynard, Sammons, Smith, Burkhead, and many others. Most of the Ratcliffs, Sammons, Maynards, and Burkheads, are from the Wayne County, West Virginia area, while the Smiths are from California. I have many relatives living in the Lawrence County, Kentucky area, Cuyahoaga County of Ohio, and Comanche County, Oklahoma. I have traced my Ratcliff line back to a Moses Damron Ratcliff b.1865-d. 1936 in West Virginia. My father Lacie E. Ratcliff of Elgin, Oklahoma, is assisting me, since he has access to more readily available information in the United States than I do. His mother's maiden name was Sammons, but she was widowed and remarried a Maynard so that is why I am working on those as well. My mother Patricia Faye Ratcliff's maiden name was Smith (from California) but her mother Cova Pearl Smith's maiden name was Burkhead (which originated also from Kentucky area) and that is why I am working on those surnames. There are several others and as I have time, I will continually update this tree as I receive information. I hope others will find this information useful as we all try and connect the pieces of a great puzzle. Billy G. Ratcliff
