New! Please visit my Raven Genealogy and Family History web site at http://genweb.net/~raven/home.htm for updated and additional information & a more easy to use format. The links at the bottom of this page will lead you to some of the information I have been able to gather thus far during my fledgeling genealogical research. I heartily welcome corrections or additional information, and would love to hear from other researchers. By no means do I consider all the information as proven, but I have included source documentation in order that you may draw your own conclusions and/or follow up anything presented here. Please note: - To protect the privacy of living people, I attempted to weed out anyone born in the 20th century. If information about a living person has slipped through, please notify me via e-mail (raviac@swbell.net), and I will remove the reference immediately. - An asterisk [*] associated with any name indicates that the individual is in my direct line. DESCENDANTS OF PETER RAVEN: Peter Raven (my 4th great-grandfather) was born in Malden, Essex, England about 1750, where he worked in the King's shipyard. He was taken by General Burgoyne's press gang to serve in the American Revolution. Wounded in the Battle of Saratoga, he was nursed back to health by the family of an American soldier named Groom. Shortly thereafter, he heard from his brother in England that his wife had died. Peter wrote back instructing the brother to keep his property and raise his two sons; that he would never return. He married Groom's sister Rachel and settled down in Clifton Park, New York. I am quite anxious to trace this line back further, so if you have any information, please write! (Sources are included as endnotes.) DESCENDANTS OF PATRICK BREEN: The Patrick Breen who was born 1795 in Barnahasken, County Carlow, Ireland (my 3rd great-grandfather) emigrated to Canada around 1828, moved to Springfield, Illinois then to Lee County, Iowa around 1834/35, then in 1846 joined the ill-fated Donner Party to travel to California via covered wagon. His was one of the families snowed in with few provisions at Donner Pass, and the diary he kept comprises much of what is known about that ordeal. The source of the genealogical information is the excellent account by Joseph A. King, "Winter of Discontent: A New Look at the Donner Party" (P.D. Meany Company Inc., Publishers, Toronto, 1992). ANCESTORS OF FORD SLOCUM BARRETT, SR.: By far, this is the line I have had the most success tracing back. This report encompasses 31 generations, from my great-grandfather Ford Slocum Barrett, Sr., through William the Conqueror, but is most notable for including numerous 17th century American settlers in Massachusetts, Maine, New Hampshire and Connecticut. (Sources are included as inline notes.) INTERNETREE: Includes 500 of my direct ancestors born between 1250 and 1899. RAVEN-BREEN-BARRETT ROSTER: For everyone in my database born prior to 1900, shows the information I have for date/location of birth, death and marriage, and name of spouse. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ HELP WANTED -- Recognize these people? 1) William L. MCGREAL, born December 19, 1874 in Los Angeles, California, died October 3, 1947 in Potlatch, Idaho, married Penelope "Neppie" EDWARDS. Need parents' names or any background information. 2) Penelope "Neppie" EDWARDS, wife of the above, born June 26, 1872 in Knoxville, Tennessee, died August 16, 1944 in Moscow, Idaho. Lived in Potlatch, Idaho from ca. 1907; a child born in 1905 shows a birth place of Oaksdale, Washington. Family lore is that one of her parents was Native American. Again, any help with parents' names or other background would be greatly appreciated. |
