This is the typical history of ordinary people who did the extraordinary thing of leaving England, to start new lives for themselves in colonial America. Some came to escape religious persecution, others perhaps for a chance for new lives.

Whether the original Hall to come to the Colonies was a Quaker can't be verified at this point, but, as his descendants definitely were of the Society of Friends, it can be assumed that probably was his reason for emigrating.

I have included all of the information that I have, birth dates, death dates, marriages, etc. When there was a discrepancy in dates, I chose the one that was not only the most logical, but also matched with other dates. For instance, one of the Benjamin Halls was listed as being born both in 1716 and 1736, almost a generation apart. Since his siblings were born every two or three years from 1716, it wasn't likely that he would have been born twenty years later, so I chose the earlier date.

To me, the amazing thing about this history, is how much people moved around, in an era when travel was so difficult. The trek of the Rawdons, who along with the Winslows moved from Tolland Connecticut to Windsor, Ohio in 1813, is incredible. The journey took them six weeks, and some died on the way.

As time goes along, and I gather more information to flesh out the bare bones of these facts, I will add them to this page. Read and enjoy!
