Notes for Hugh Courtney:
Came to America in 1763 at the age of 14. He came from Cork County, Ireland.

He was a private for the state of Pennsylvania in the Revolutionary War.

      10. Zophar Davis, born October 02, 1769 in Vermont or New York; died June 09, 1858 in Washington Valley Cemetery, Edinboro, PA. He was the son of 20. Daniel Davis and 21. Mrs. Mary Davis. He married 11. Lois Porter 1794.

      11. Lois Porter, born 1773; died December 25, 1849 in Washington Valley Cemetery, Edinboro, PA. She was the daughter of 22. Noah Porter and 23. Lois Powers.

Notes for Zophar Davis:
His father was in the Revolutionary War.
He came to Washington Township in 1816 from Vermont.

Another source says that he was a native of Long Island who came to Erie County in 1816 with his family.

FROM AN ERIE, PA NEWSPAPER - 1925:

STATES PAIR SETTLED HERE 109 YEARS AGO TODAY by Elijah Crowe.

Zopher and Lois Davis (PORTER) arrived at Conneaut now Washington township, one hundred and nine years ago today, where they lacated on a two hundred acre farm purchased at the time from the Rev. Oliver Alford for the sum of fourteen hundred dollars.
Besides Mr. Davis and his wife there were six daughters, four sons, two sons in law and two grandsons in this party. The sons in law who accompanied the family party were: Captain Reuben Sharpe and Captain James Courtney who were married to Lois and Polly Davis respectively. Beulah Davis was subsequently married to Abner Holmes. Philena married William McLallen and Durah married Alva Gardner and Absolom married Desire Drake, William married Louisa Thomas, Daniel married Polly McLallen and Sarah married Benjamin Briggs and young Zopher died young, and with the exception of Beulah Davis Holmes, the entire family is buried in Erie County.
M. L. Davis candidate for Judge and Prof. Carter W. Trow of Erie are grandsons of William and Louisa.
Zophar Davis was of Welsh ancestry while his wife Lois came from Irish stock.
Mrs. Oliver Alford was a sister of Mrs. Zophar Davis and the mother of the late Noah Jewett of Waterford.
Mrs. Richard Gage, Mrs. John Hodges (Theodosia) Mrs. P. Isherwood and Ira Alford are the children of Reverend and Mrs. Alford, resided during their lives a little north of Cambridge Springs. At one time the Alfords family resided on the Jewett farm 4 miles north of Waterford.
The present site of McLallen's Corners is relatively in the center of the original Alford-Davis farm.

      12. Comfort Hayes, Sr., born June 10, 1770 in Danbury, CT; died February 25, 1850 in Springfield township, Erie County, PA. He was the son of 24. Samuel Hayes and 25. Sarah Roberts or Robards. He married 13. Phoebe Judd Abt. 1791 in Strafford, Orange County, VT.

      13. Phoebe Judd, born September 13, 1773 in Hebron, CT; died February 27, 1859 in Springfield township, Erie County, PA. She was the daughter of 26. Phillip Judd and 27. Mary Peters.

Book of Wills, Crawford County (Meadville) Book 2, p 326, Rough Docket indicate that the Letters of Administration on the Estate of Isaac B. Hall were granted on 22 DEC 1860. The inventory was filed 22 JAN 1861. He and wife Mary W. Hall
deeded to Solomon Jackson Hall and his wife Phoebe land on 13

SEP 1860. Phoebe Steenrod died after 4 NOV 1847 after she signed the deed to Isaac Orrin Hall. she may have died in 1857.



Matthais' history says that Issac moved first to Springfield Twp, Erie, PA (Cherry Hill district) and then in Sept 1826 to Cussewago Twp, Crawford, PA
