I am searching for information on my grandfather Charles MATHESON a.k.a. Carl LAPHAM. I believe Carl LAPHAM was the adopted son of John LAPHAM- b. 1860 - Somerset, England and Janey(Janice)SYKES - b. 1860 from Uxbridge Reach, Ontario. John and Janey were married in 1880 in Pickering. The 1901 census shows them living in Stayner, Ontario with son Willie ROSS(adopted) and Carl KITSON - border. John and his family moved to Fernie B.C. in 1903. I believe John died there and Jeannie remarried Andrew RANSIER. Young Carl may have been Charlie Lapham at that time. He was sent to live back east with his Aunt Lizzie SYKES. I know he had something to do with the R.F.C. and cousin William Avery BISHOP although he must have lied about his age to enlist. He would have been a little young for WW1. He spent from 1920-22 in Kingston Correctional for charges of assault in Oshawa, Ont. John's parents were listed as Adolphus and Martha LAPHAM. Other witnesses for their wedding were George and Jane SYKES (Janey's parents), George LAPHAM and Susannah SYKES.
