I am researching the Rea family from Saintfield, Northern Ireland. My grandparents had a farm in Ouchley near Saintfield and their parents had two farms one in Tullywest near Saintfield, the other in The Lessons near Saintfield.

My Great Grand Parents had eleven children (seven girls and four boys)The girls names were Margaret, Annie, Elizabeth, Sarah, Matilda, Mary, Charlotte and the boys were James, John, Thomas and Hugh.

Matilda went to Australia. Elizabeth, Sarah and Thomas went to Canada

  • The Rea Family Crest (19 KB)
The name Rea in Ireland can have a number of different origins and can be derived from a number of different Gaelic Septs including those for McCrea, Reagh, Reavy, Raw and Wray. The majority of the names are found in Country Antrim in Ulster and can be of immigrant origin or from the Gaelic McCrea Sept.
