2. JAMES² TURNBULL (JAMES¹ TURNBUL) was born 1801, and died April 19, 1870. He married GRACE PATERSON July 11, 1826, daughter of WILLIAM PATERSON and AGNES LUMSDEN.

Inscription reads:

Sacret to the memory of JAMES TURNBULL Gladsmuir
who for upwards of 36 years faithfully discharged the duties of Schoolmaster and other offices connected with the Parish.
He was esteemed and beloved by all who knew him and died deeply regretted on 19th, May 1870, aged 69 years,
also of his children ELIZABETH ALEXANDER died 11th March 1839 aged 2 years & 3 months,
JAMES died 12th June 1840, aged 11 years & 7 months
ADAM died 14th Sept. 1861, aged 29 years
WILLIAM died 5th July 1871, aged 41 years
AGNES died 21st January 1872 aged 44 years
and of his wife GRACE PATERSON who died 4th March 1880 aged 76
and of their daughter MARGARET who died 26th December 1889 aged 51 years.
