HI and WELCOME to all you REED / READ relatives!! This page features our MAYFLOWER ancestors and the many descendants of John Read, of Newport, RI and Freetown, Mass. John Read migrated from southwest England to the New World [Newport, Plymouth Colony] in the mid-1660s as part of the Great Migration that populated the area now made up of the states of MA,VT,RI,and NH. John came from England to became the progenitor of our large Read/Reed blood line in America. He landed in Newport, Rhode Island before 1666 to access the freedoms of religion denied him in England at the time as a member of the Seventh Day Baptists. He soon purchased some ex-Indian land across from Newport near Freetown, Mass and moved there with his new wife Hannah to start a family. [Note: As a work in progress, I welcome your constructive comments to update and perfect this genealogy record. Send me email with your suggestions.
