The Reed's & kinfolk of Hancock County TennesseeUpdated February 10, 2008 | |
| Hello family from beautiful upper east Tennessee! We reside in Hancock County, supposedly the poorest county in the state financially (actually we just don't brag about what we have) and the richest in culture and sheer beauty! (But we don't like to brag!) The Reed Family Reunion will take place the 3rd Saturday in July at the new Seal Mathis Community Center on Highway 33 in Hancock County. Seal Mathis is a fixture in the 7th District community here and probably a lot of the family went or knew some family members, who attended elementary school there. Deb The Mathis/Matthews family has been here since my 6th great grandfather, Enos Mathis (Aenas Matthews) came from Darlington County South Carolina. The Reed's are more complicated. We are searching our brick wall of the family of Matthew Russell born 1800 and married to a Mary Polly Unknown. My great great grandfather was Andrew Jackson 'Jack' Russell aka Reed. He married Millie Bray, the daughter of Abijah & Mary Polly Webb Bray. My Dodson family came from Patrick County Virginia in 1856. Thomas & Mark Keaton Dodson along with his mother, Susannah Deal Dodson (widow of Eli Dodson) came via Harlan County Kentucky to Hancock County Tennessee. Soon to follow was John Pinkard & Lucinda Foley Jefferson with the rest of my families. Preston & Nancy Lawson Morgan were already here and one of my hardest to follow. Nancy was the daughter of old Drewery Lawson, one of the First Families of Tennessee. If you know anything of these ancestors, please let me know! |
