We are researching the surnames of REED, ARNOLD, HALE & IVEY; BROWN & LOUDERMILK; MERCHANT, CLOESSNER, & GOODWIN; KING, McBAY, & CHILDRESS.
We are searching for the parents of Enoch Reed(dob 1809, Georgia) & also, his wife parents. She was Mariah Johnson (dob 1811, Indiana). Her father's name was Jim Johnson, her mother's surname was Holly, her maternal grandmother was a Cherokee with the English surname of Nellie. His father or grandfather supposedly immigrated to the US from Ireland with 2 or 3 of his brothers.
Grace, Chessie, Aubry, Bright, & Ben Arnold were born in Riley Creek, Yell Co., AR. They were the children of Dan O. Arnold, b. 1850 in TN, & Mary Elizabeth Ivey Geiger, b. 1869 in AR, both Dan & Lizzie had been married previously & she married a Mr. Haire, after his death she married Calvin Reed. I believe Mary E. [Lizzie] to be the daughter of John Ivy & granddaughter of Turner Ivey who migrated to Yell Co. from NC, via Haywood Co., TN. She married 1st, E.M. Geiger & there were children from this marriage. Dan Arnold, had been married at least once before, maybe twice & had children from this marriage [these marriages]. Any information about any of these people will be much appreciated.
Wiley B.E. Hale [Hales], s/o of James & Elizabeth [Unknown] Hale, was born 6/10/1838 in McNairy Co., TN, he married Sarah Jane White [d/o George W., Sr. & Margaret [Unknown] White, [dob 5/7/1839] in Hardin Co. where Sarah was born. Wiley served with the Union's 6th TN Calvery, during the Civil War. A set of twins, Nora & Noah, were born to Wiley & Sarah in IL in 1876, a daughter, Mary Elizabeth, was born in AR, in 1879 near Hattieville in Conway Co., AR. There were 4 other children. We would like to have information about their early years in TN & IL. They were living in Yell Co, AR in 1900.
In 1896, in Arcadia, Bienville Parish, LA, Joseph (Joe) B. Merchant (dob 1852-Marion Co.,GA) m. Elizabeth Cathryn Cloessner(dob 1869-Arcadia,LA). In 1897 they were living in Leggett,Polk Co., TX & Taylor[?], TX in 1899. They also lived in Young Co., TX. From TX, they moved to Zwolle, LA. They were in DeRitter, LA in 1910, & Shreveport, LA in 1920. The family then moved to Gillham, AR. Joe B. had 2 older brothers, Jake & Jim & probably a sister. Their father or grandfather may have been an Irish immigrant. J.B. & Lizzy were the parents of 8 children, 3 died in infancy or early childhood. The 5 surviving children were Jake, Tom, Joe, May, & Ada, all deceased. We know J.B. was married at least twice, probably 3 times. He had a daughter, Mary Jane [Jennie], from his 1st marriage. She was born near Sparta, Bienville Parish, LA.
Elizabeth Kathryn Cloessner was the child of Charles Jacob Cloessner & Susan Goodwin. She had 6 siblings - Charles F.,Margaret M., Maxie Annie, John E, James Rudolph, & William Karl. Charles Jacob was born in Germany & may have immigrated to the US with his parents & siblings. He eventually settled in LA.
