I have always been interested in history, especially my own family. I began to research earnestly when I found a list of killed Mariners from World War II. On that list I saw my grandfather's name, Ignacio Reinosa. He was a Merchant Marine, who died while working on the USAT Dorchester. The ship had been torpedoed by a German U-boat, U-223, on February 3, 1943 off the coast of Greenland. My father was born a few months after his death. I am researching the following surnames: Reinosa, Cedeño, Quiñones, Velazco, Hernandez, Navedo, Laureano, Rosario. My family came from the following towns in Puerto Rico: San Juan, Yauco, Utuado, Aguas Buenas, Guaynabo, Vega Baja, Juncos, and San Lorenzo. I have received a lot of information from several distant cousins I've had the luck to find through the internet. Thank you all for sharing. If any names seem familiar to anyone or if the information I have listed is incorrect, please feel free to send me an email. |
