Maxine Grace Barden (b. September 11, 1910, d. November 13, 1993)
Maxine Grace Barden (daughter of Frank Stephen Barden and Myra Grace Gibson) was born September 11, 1910 in Washington, Washington Co., IA, US, and died November 13, 1993 in Flagstaff, Coconino Co., AZ, US. She married Herbert Roosevelt Rice on December 30, 1931.

Info. from obit. In 1930 Maxine attending the University of Minnesota School of Nursing at Minneapolis General hospital, and she met and married Dr. Herbert R. Rice in 1931. In 1944 she returned to school; while her husband was serving in the Pacific Theater with the U.S Navy; and she had four young children at home, but she completed her nurse's training. In late 1944 the family moved to Flagstaff, Arizona where Herb was assigned as medical officer to the V-12 Navy Training Program at the Northern Arizona University. After the war Herb opened a private practice in their family home in Flagstaff. Maxine was his office nurse for several years. Herb died in 1955 in a drowning accident in Phoenix. In 1957 Maxine became a partner in the downtown Flagstaff Mortuary. She decided to move the mortuary to their doctor office and family home so she converted it to a mortuary and family home where it continues to operate. She owned and operated the the business till 1968 when sold it to her daughter Susie Bagwell, and son-in-law Dick Bagwell.
