Mary Fidelia Gibson was born 14 Jun 1894 in Jackson Twp., Washington Co., IA, US, and died 07 Aug 1963 in Chicago, Cook Co., IL, US. She married Harry Asa Reid on 30 Sep 1916 in Wapello, Louisa Co., IA, US, son of Asa W. Reid and Annie Fridrick Eckensperger.

BIO: She was the third child of William A. & Nellie Grace (McMillan) Gibson.
Mary was born on the family farm appx 5 miles north of the town of Washington which is located in Jackson Township, Washington County, Iowa. She was born with no fingers on her left hand, only a thumb, and overcame this handicap vary well. She attended Grade school in a country one room school house, and graduated from Washington High School on 01 Jun 1911, in the city of Wash. Iowa.
Then she attended Oberlin and Mammoth Colleges for two years. Her first year of nurses training was spent at the University- Hospital at Iowa City,IA. She graduated as a Nurse from the Englewood Hospital, Chicago, IL. in the fall of 1918, and then went back home to Iowa. During her time in Washington she was vary helpful caring for the sick folks around town, and was an efficient nurse. She showed herself to be particularity fearless during the influenza epidemic that year, when she was kept constantly busy with some serious cases. She is well liked and was missed by friends in Washington.
Upon leaving Washington for Chicago on the 30 Apr 1919, she surprised family and friends by announcing her marriage to Dr. Harry A. Reid. The couple had been married for three years, and had kept it a secret all that time. Their home in Chicago is all furnished and ready for occupancy. Her husband Harry, the son of Asa Reid, was local boy, who grew up in Washington, and has a lot of friends there.
(Part of above, headed GIBSON-REID, was on the front page, center column, of an old Washington Iowa news paper, the "The Washington Democrat", the paper was date Wed. 07 May 1919, it says, "Forty Second year, price 5 cents, eight pages." It also says, "The subscription price is $1.50 per year in advance. A.R. Miller Editor and Publisher, Copy for advertising must be in not later than Monday, as we go to press early Tuesday.") Mary had black hair, and olive skin, she did not sunburn.
Mary had numerous mischarges, and her first baby William was premature and only lived one day.
Mary and Harry were divorced 09 Jun 1933, and Mary gained full custody of their only child Harry Gibson Reid.
Mary is buried at the Elm Grove Cem., Washington, Washington Co., IA, US. She was laid to rest at 3:45pm on 12 Aug 1963 in the Gibson plot with other family members.
She is listed in the Social Security Death Records.
