Dad and his younger brother Ralph (Jack) lived with the Young family of Washington after their mothers death in 1913. Auntie Young, a widow, had 2 daughters but took on the job of raising the 2 boys as well. I remember as a kid being with Dad in Washington, Iowa when he stopped to see dear little old, all bent over, Auntie Young.
When Dad was young man he sometimes went with his Dad in their wagon on horse buying trips. They lived and slept in the wagon, and fixed camp meals. Dad had many jobs as a young man, cook, barber, night disk clerk in hotel, and yard-man for rail road. He and another fellow went on the bum one summer and road the rods under the rail-road cars to get from one town to another. Mom and Dad were secretly married in 1916, and they both continued their schooling.
Alida Reid says Charles and Ellen loaned Harry money for Collage, and he paid them back. And that his first office was at 55th and Halsted St. in Chicago was near their home.
A War Department letter A.G. 201, dated 15 Dec 1917 states he was to be enlisted in the Medical Enlisted Reserve Corps. and that this would permit him to continue his Dental studies at Chicago Collage of Dental Surgery.
